Why do flight attendants wear lanyards?

In airports and on airplanes, many flight attendants are now being required to carry or wear an identification badge at all times while doing their job. It is especially important for flight attendants to make their identification badges visible for security guards and passengers to see, so that anyone who needs to be able to identify who they are can do so easily and quickly. This can be frustrating for some flight attendants, who are worried about where their identification badge is and if it’s being displayed properly, especially if they are not allowed to do their job without their identification badge on them.

Many flight attendants have started using lanyards as an easy solution to this problem. Lanyards are an easy way for flight attendants to keep their identification badges visible, and so they know where their badge always is. It also decreases the chances that someone will steal their identification badge and use it to gain access to parts of the airport or airplane that they shouldn’t be allowed in, and helps keep the airport more secure because of it.

Lanyards also allow flight attendants to express a bit of their individuality. Most flight attendants are required to wear uniforms, so all flight attendants look the same, and are wearing the same colored outfit every day to work. This can become drab and boring for flight attendants who like to show off their personality through their clothes. Lanyards let flight attendants do just that without distracting from their uniform appearance, and allow flight attendants to retain their professional appearance at the same time.

Lanyards can have many different uses, most especially for flight attendants. Whether they are being used to display their identification badge for security reasons, or so they can keep their keys or other important items close to them at all times, they can help cut down on the amount of time flight attendants waste trying to find these things. This means flight attendants are able to spend more time serving their passengers and the other people around them, and possibly help keep the airplane and airport more secure in return. 

Lanyards can be used for a variety of other things that can help flight attendants do their job, as well. Keys to special areas of the airport or airplane, or other small items that they may need throughout the day to do their job can be attached to the lanyard. This allows the flight attendant to move through the airport or airplane without having to worry about where these important items are, and in turn lets them do their job quickly and more efficiently, since they don’t have to waste time trying to track these items down.
